James Jones signs with San Diego Chargers

With wide receiver Stevie Johnson set to undergo surgery on a torn meniscus, the San Diego Chargers tested out three potential replacements Tuesday.

They settled on James Jones jersey.

The Chargers signed the long-time Green Bay Packers jerseys wideout to a one-year deal, the team announced.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier that the Chargers were hosting Jones and former Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline on Tuesday, per sources. In addition, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported former Lions receiver Lance Moore would also work out for the team.

After a one-year sojourn with the Oakland Raiders jerseys in 2014, Jones had an impressive bounce-back year in Green Bay. Donning a hoodie for several of his 15 starts, Jones earned 50 receptions for 890 yards and eight touchdowns, while filling in on an injury-plagued receiving corps. For several stretches Jones was Aaron Rodgers’ go-to target. With Jordy Nelson’s return and a cavalcade of younger targets on the roster, the Packers said so-long to Jones once again.

It’s clear the 32-year-old has lost a step, won’t get much separation from corners and will rely on timing with the quarterback to earn any production in his 10th NFL season. With Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin jersey already slated for starting spots, the Chargers might be comfortable using Jones and wholesale jerseys as a veteran replacement in a limited role in 2016.

Ryan Mathews San Diego Chargers Nike Alternate Limited JerseyPhilip Rivers continues to bolster his standing in the annals of San Diego Chargers history.

During Thursday’s 21-13 win over the Denver Broncos, Rivers passed Dan Fouts to become the Chargers’ all-time passing yards leader.

Rivers set the record on a 12-yard pass to tight end Hunter Henry early in the second quarter. After the completion, Rivers was 11 of 13 for 131 yards and a touchdown on the game with the Chargers leading, 7-0. Rivers had 43,047 career passing yards upon breaking the mark.

Rivers finished the game completing 18 of 29 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown.

“Philip is the best in the business,” Chargers coach Mike McCoy said. “He’s been that way for a long time … He’s a special player.”

It wasn’t the first time Rivers set a team record. The five-time Pro Bowler already holds team records for quarterback wins (93), passing completions (3,579) and passing touchdowns (292).

McCoy’s camp would point to the string of injuries to key players such as Keenan Allen, Stevie Johnson, Danny Woodhead, Jason Verrett and Brandon Flowers.

To be fair, though, the roster has been strong enough to generate leads of a touchdown or more in every game this season.

The breakdown has come in close-and-situations, an area of game management McCoy has struggled to master since taking control in 2013.

“The way they are losing games, I think that’s a reflection on their head coach,” NFL Network analyst Reggie Wayne said on Wednesday’s edition of NFL Total Access. “They need to find a way to finish games … That’s on the head coach. That’s his responsibility of teaching his guys, of preaching to his guys on how to finish, what we need to do to become a finishing team. And they just can’t get that done right now.”

The Chargers have blown leads in the final two minutes of three of their four losses. Luckily for the Chargers and McCoy, another late-game meltdown failed to surface again on national television Thursday night. With the Chargers’ losing streak over, the organization’s braintrust could choose to wait before making any decisions about its head coach.

Chargers’ Joey Bosa will not play vs. Jaguars

The consequences of Joey Bosa’s holdout will now extend into the season’s third week.

The San Diego Chargers’ heralded rookie defensive lineman will not play in Sunday’s contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars jerseys as he continues to nurse a hamstring injury, the team announced. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport added that Bosa’s availability next week is “no sure thing” either.

After missing the season opener at Kansas City, Bosa has sat out a week of practices ahead of San Diego’s home opener. In fact, since returning from his contract standoff, Bosa hasn’t even practiced in full pads.

The Chargers are sorely missing Bosa on the defensive line, which was worn down by the Chiefs in the second half last week. With a rising Jags offense coming into Qualcomm on Sunday and Andrew Luck’s Colts in the near future, San Diego will be in deep trouble in the competitive AFC West right out of the gate if its promising pass rusher can’t get up to speed.

The Miami Dolphins and cheap New Orleans Saints jerseys are headed to London in 2017.

The Dolphins will face the Saints next season in one of the matchups to be played in London, a league source told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The Dolphins also announced the development.

The site and date of the contest has yet to be determined. Miami will be the host team.

Miami is hosting the game as per the resolution approved by the clubs at the 2014 October meeting that stated that teams making a successful bid to host a Super Bowl would be required to host an international game within five years of the their successful bid.

The Dolphins have played three previous times in London: 2007 versus the New York Giants, 2014 versus the Oakland Raiders jerseys, and 2015 versus the New York Jets. Twice (2007, 2015) Miami was designated the home team. The Dolphins are 1-2 at Wembley Stadium.

The Saints last played in London in 2008, a win over the San Diego Chargers, in their only trip across the pond.

San Diego Chargers Nike Team Color Limited JerseyDenver Broncos left tackle Russell Okung is on pace to play Monday night versus the Houston Texans jerseys.

Okung participated in practice on a limited basis Friday and Saturday and is officially listed as questionable. He’ll have to pass the final stages of concussion protocol to be cleared for game action.

The blindside blocker was taken to the hospital after last week’s loss to the San Diego Chargers after experiencing concussion symptoms.

Facing Texans pass rushers Jadeveon Clowney and Whitney Mercilus, having Okung on the field will be a boon for Trevor Siemian.

Wide receiver Cody Latimer (concussion) also participated in a limited capacity in practice Saturday and is listed as questionable. Like Okung, Latimer will need to pass protocol to be cleared.

DeMarcus Ware (forearm) was ruled out. The veteran will miss his fifth game.

Ware began working out this week but wasn’t cleared for practice. The Broncos hope Ware begins practicing next week.

Emmanuel Sanders (hip), Trevor Siemian (left shoulder) and T.J. Ward (ankle) all were full participants this week and will be good to go Monday night.

The Texans placed corner Kevin Johnson on injured reserve with a foot injury, the team announced. It’s a major blow to a defense that has given up 227.3 passing yards in Weeks 4-6. Safety Quintin Demps (calf), linebacker Brian Peters (quadriceps) and running back Jonathan Grimes (ankle) were also ruled out.

After not playing a snap last week, Houston rookie receiver Will Fuller (hamstring) was full-go on Saturday after being limited early in the week. That’s a positive progression for a Texans offense that needs its speedster versus the No Fly Zone.
